Historical Outline

ITD was developed as a subsidiary unit of the financial & administrative affairs at Doha municipality in 1982, and known as a computer unit, then became as a department at the ministry of agriculture and municipal affairs. This department was basically considered with the requirements of the financial and administrative affairs, for ex.: the accounting system, the balancing, the stores and the personal affairs.

In 1993, the needs of computer services increased, expansion, and enlargement due to its corporation into the ministry of industry and the general works, the requirement of establishing a computer center increased for providing services to entire ministry and its department, municipals…etc. so a ministerial resolution was issued in 1993 for the establishment of administrative information systems center. Then the center became under the direct supervision for the minister, and considered as a great movement and a distinct step at the level of the state. The ministry became famous destination for those whom concerned with the information technology to serve the state.

In 2001 the center changed into information technology department according to the resolution issued by the minister, new step starts for quick developing and improving its services and upgrade the performance quality level in information technology department.

The specialization of the ITD

  1. Changing the manual and the procedures systems used into computer systems to improve the performance and to upgrade the quality.

  2. Built and develop the information systems by making special studies and analysis for best result.

  3. Manage the information system in the ministry represented by the computers types (central, personal computer, software and its accessories) and provide a network information to serve the ministry of external which connect the ministry with other state corporations and with the internet.

  4. Design, operate, and administer the database with its different types.

  5. Study the entire requirements of the administration and all municipalities of the software and computer equipments and connect them with the network to provide the information needed.

  6. Provide technical support for the users.

  7. Train the employees on using the systems, software, and the computers accessories.
